| What is Counselling and Psychotherapy? |
Counselling may be short term with a particular goal
in mind. It can also be longer term where you will
come across past or historical patterns of relating
to others, and how these affect you in the present.
Psychotherapy looks in depth at how these underlying
patterns influence your current relationships.
I offer Gestalt Psychotherapy and CBT on a short or long term,
flexible basis.
|
So what is Gestalt Psychotherapy?
Gestalt therapy is
a relational way of working, which focuses on your
experience in the present moment. Thoughts, feelings
and physical sensations are all considered to offer
valuable information.
Sessions focus on the here and now, and what is
happening moment by moment in the consulting room.
Staying with your experience in this way, emphasizes
personal responsibility, and helps you begin to feel
clearer about identifying your own needs and making
lasting change.
|
and what is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?
CBT is an approach which shows how the way you
feel is driven by your personal beliefs and the
way you think. So once we have identified
unhelpful thinking, for example, a phobia, we
can start to work on changing your thinking
and in turn changing the way you feel. |

What I offer - some of the areas I work with include: |
 |
- Post traumatic stress
- Sexual, Physical and Emotional abuse
- Depression

|
I have considerable experience
in working with relational difficulties, helping people to make
changes
in their life and relationships -
These include problems in the workplace or
at college, or with personal and intimate
relationships. |
I previously worked for a therapy agency
specialising in rape and sexual abuse.
I also work with counselling students
where personal therapy is a training requirement,
as
I am familiar with the
learning processes on both counselling and
psychotherapy training programmes
I offer short and longer term individual
therapy with the following
options depending
on
your financial resources. |
- Weekly one hour sessions which would be suitable if you are looking for exploratory work.
- Fortnightly one hour sessions - this may be suitable if you are are not experiencing a current crisis.
- Discounts for counselling students on receipt of proof of study.
|
The frequency may also change, for example,
meeting weekly at the start of
therapy and
fortnightly as the work progresses.
The pattern of attendance can vary depending
on your particular needs. |
