What is McTimoney Chiropractic?
McTimoney Chiropractic is a gentle method of adjusting the bones
of your body to maintain and correct the alignment of your spine and other joints and ensure your body’s nerve supply works efficiently. If any part of your spinal column becomes misaligned then a nerve may become impinged, compressed or stretched, distorting the information that is passed along it. Through a
number of light, swift and dexterous techniques McTimoney chiropractic care sets out to eliminate the cause of pain and discomfort not just to treat the symptoms.

What to expect from your first appointment
Your chiropractor will take a full case history regarding your general health background as well as an assessment of your symptoms. They will then thoroughly examine all the joints of your body, from head to toe, and undertake any further clinical assessment in the form of neurological and orthopaedic tests in order to determine that it is safe to treat you. If your chiropractor discovers or suspects a problem, which requires medical investigation or an x-ray, they will refer you to your GP. Once the assessment has been made, where it is appropriate your chiropractor will adjust each individual bone that requires treatment.
You will receive postural advice after the treatment to help your body get most benefit from the adjustments, and to raise your awareness of everyday actions which may be exacerbating your problem.
You may also be given some basic exercises or stretches to do if your chiropractor feels that it would be beneficial.
How many sessions?
The number of sessions varies considerably depending on your age, how long you have had the problem, the nature of the problem and your lifestyle. Most patients need between two and four sessions, but your chiropractor will give you a better idea of a probable treatment plan after they have examined you. |
