  What is reflexology?

Whilst the art of reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, China and India, it wasn’t until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced his therapy to the West as ‘zone therapy’. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed
this theory into what is known today as Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

Reflexology works on the feet to help heal the whole person not just the symptoms.

How can reflexology help me?

This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore it’s own healthy balance. Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:

  • Stress-related conditions
• Migraine
• Infertility
• Arthritis
• Sleep disorders
• Sports injuries
• Hormonal imbalances
• Digestive disorders
(Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe)

• Reflexology is a deeply relaxing therapy which most people find de-stressing, therefore improvements can also be noticed on an emotional and mental level which gives the client a greater ability to cope.

Who can benefit from reflexology?

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

What happens when I go for a treatment?

The first appointment will take approximately 1½ hours (subsequent treatments 1 hour) and will include a consultation to determine your present and past health and lifestyle. During treatment the reflexologist will use skilfully applied pressure to specific points on the feet. A professionally trained reflexologist can detect subtle changes in specific points on the feet and by working these points may affect the corresponding organ or system. After having completed a course of treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue regular treatments in order to maintain health and well being.
